Due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, there could be more cyberattacks about to happen.

Ukraine and Russia

This week, Mr. Joyce, an American cyber security official, provided his insights about the possible cyber threat that might arise as the Ukraine-Russia war continues.

In his interview, Mr. Joyce stated that he is extremely worried about the current, prolonging war between Ukraine and Russia. He said that the threats keep emanating as the war continues.

As of the moment, Russia has already stated that it is deploying about 8–9 different viruses, expecting to wipe out computer systems. Last Tuesday, Russia was being judged for targeting a satellite communication provider being used by the Ukrainian military, and these attacks were widespread, affecting some other customers of the said communication provider around Europe.

Meanwhile, in Russia, Mr. Joyce stated that he is aware of these kinds of hackers, called “vigilantes,” who are also trying to help with the cyber attack to show support for Ukraine. Even if it is something we can cheer for as people show help and support for Ukraine, this too can cause problems. Also, Mr. Joyce is reminding the nations to be accountable for any cyber attack activities that come from “vigilantes” and criminals inside their country and to be mindful that as their people like to support the current norms, they must be able to understand that there are rules that apply and they must not go beyond that.
